Facts about goats, horses, pot belly pigs, sheep, and cows.



Facts about animals is one of the more popular posts on this blog.  I have re-done the post and have added in some new animals that The Scarecrow Forest has added since the last post.

Besty and Chloe
Goats
Female: Doe
Male: Buck
Castrated Male: Wether
Baby: Kids
Life Expectancy:  10-12 years
Facts:

  • Goats have rectangular pupils - this allows them to see very well in the dark.
  • Male goats will rear up on their hind legs and lunge downward to butt heads. Male sheep will run at, or charge, each other to butt heads.

Horses
Female: Mare
Male: Stallion
Baby: Foal
Life Expectancy:20-30 years
Facts: 

  • Dogs and cats drink by lapping water with their tongues while cattle and horses make use of a sucking action.
  •  Foals can run shortly after birth.

Pot Belly Pigs
Female:  Sow
Male: Boar
Baby: Piglet
Life Expectancy: 10-15 years
Facts: 

  • Can be house broken.
  •  Pigs have poor vision but excellent senses of smell and hearing.



 


Sheep
Female: Ewe
Male: Ram
Castrated Male: Wether
Baby: Lambs
Life Expectancy: 10-12 years
Facts:

  • Domesticated sheep are raised for a number of agricultural products including fleece and meat.
  • Sheep are herbivores that eat vegetation such as grass, grain, and clover (they can graze up to seven hours a day).



Cows
Female: Cow
Male: Bull
Castrated Male: Steer
Baby: Calf
Life Expectancy: Average is 15 years and they can live up to 25 years.
Facts:   

  • Cows drink about a bathtub full of water.
  • Cattle only have one stomach but with four compartments to help digest grasses and grains.
